Leaders talk Weirton development
By Craig Howell
Government leaders and development experts converged on Weirton Monday to begin looking into the future of the community.
City officials from Weirton, as well as the state and federal government and various businesses and industries, met at the Serbian American Cultural Center for a community roundtable to discuss Weirton's economic future and the various possibilities which may exist.
The event was organized by U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va. and the Discover the REAL West Virginia Foundation.
The event, considered to be a first of its kind meeting for the foundation, covered a variety of topics, including brownfields, land reclamation in steel communities, metropolitan growth strategies and a forecast on Weirton's future.
