Senator meets with Young Democrats

On Saturday evening, Sen. Jay Rockefeller came to Morgantown and spoke with students at West Virginia University.
While he was in town, he also met with a group of veterans by himself, without staff.
At an event in the Mountainlair organized by the Young Democrats, Rockefeller came to discuss his views on America and answer questions from the audience.
After graduating from Harvard University, where he made it a point to state that he didn’t enjoy it there, he spent three years at a Japanese university. This didn’t do much for him. He wasn’t interested in his family’s business and didn’t want to stay in New York and he visited West Virginia as a volunteer with AmeriCorps.
Rockefeller fell in love with it. Arriving in West Virginia in 1964, he got involved with projects to help families living in poverty. He said that the young people were terrific to work with. He stayed a second year. “I was reborn,” he said.
