U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller said Saturday he believes the nation has already slipped into a recession and he is not certain it can be stopped.
“I think it's mild,” Rockefeller said of the current recession, while appearing in Charleston to kick off his fifth campaign for the Senate.
“It could be worse,” the 70-year-old senator warned, “and that has horrendous implications for West Virginia .”
President Bush's proposal to give taxpayers $145 billion in relief probably won't work because it will not give enough money to the middle class, the people who make purchases like washing machines, said Rockefeller, a Democrat.
